Dublin (AFP) - Pope Francis "begged for God's forgiveness" on Sunday for multiple abuse scandals within the Irish church but faced accusations by a former Vatican official that he had personally ignored allegations against senior clergy.

In front of 45,000 supporters at the rain-soaked Knock shrine in the west of Ireland, the pope sought forgiveness over the "open wound" of the church's sexual abuse scandal and demanded "firm and decisive" measures to find "truth and justice".

At a later Mass to tens of thousands of flag-waving worshippers at Dublin's Phoenix Park, the showpiece event of the two-day visit to the former Catholic stronghold, he also confessed to other abuses by the Irish church, including at its so-called "mother and baby" homes.

But in the city centre around 5,000 abuse victims and their supporters braved the weather to attend the "Stand for Truth" rally.

Bergoglio may be less evil than some other Bad Popes, but he is more dangerous.

The bad popes of the past "merely" had personal vices: they were preoccupied with getting some woman, or some money, or some castle in Avignon. They were too absorbed in plain fleshly vices, the pursuit of wealth, pleasure or power, to give a flip over uninteresting stuff like doctrines concerning faith and morals.

This one is different. He actually has a zeal for doctrine and dogma. That is, he is dedicated to the controlled demolition of the intellectual, pastoral and spiritual structure of Catholicism.

A pope consumed by personal vices (mostly) damages himself and makes himself fit for hell.

A pope who is an energetic and dedicated enemy of doctrine can take down almost the entire Church.

I even have a hypothesis that God has permitted this present, very public political/moral catastrophe in order to stop Francis before he can enact lasting, formal dogmatic changes.

His credibility now --- and thus his ability to schmooze his way through via avuncular charm and faux-Franciscan piety --- is rapidly approaching zero.

"Gentleness and compassion have a place: gentleness to those who are innocent and easily hurt (little children, the physically frail) and compassionate toward people who are being ill-used and spat on by barbarians."

There is one other group. Those who have transgressed, confessed their transgressions, and accepted the legal penalty for their actions in true contrition.

It were far better that he and his had not allowed this carnal sect to gain and hold power while abusing the innocent.

Next time he should ask for the righteous integrity to openly combat evil at its inception - and failing that, to try actual repentance instead of just begging for forgiveness.

You are right.
That was never a serious statement, of course.

For me, at least, he's in the "negative credibility" realm. This realm is also occupied by the likes of Barack 0bama, Hillary Clinton, Dan Rather and anybody on CNN.

I wonder if soon we are going to start seeing protests in the Vatican.

For those who do not repent of crimes against little ones, millstones would be better for them now than hellfire later. There will be judgment of every sin, one day.

Long ago I woke up from what seemed a prophetic dream where a loud speaker was blaring, “The pope has just announced that he has just become a Christian.” Maybe it was prophetic. Maybe this will be that pope. He sure seems like he should, for many reasons.

If the ‘priests’ were abusing children Pope Francis should call the police NOT call on God. Render on to Caesar... After he calls the police and the criminal are tried and sentenced to prison Prop Francis can meet them in prison and pray over them.
