It’s not the first time a segment on Fox News gets the president tweeting. But it’s the first time Trump claims South African farmers are being mass-murdered.
This myth was fueled by white supremacists for years before it surfaced in a presidential tweet.
More than two decades after the end of apartheid, South African farmland owners remain a predominantly white group. Fringe groups in South Africa and the United States say these white farmers are targeted and killed at disproportionately high rates. There’s no evidence for this claim, experts say, but it feeds the white-supremacist agenda by stoking racial resentment and division.
Trump made two claims about South Africa in his tweet: that the government is seizing land from white farmers and that a “large scale killing of farmers” is underway.
The president’s first claim about land seizures has some merit but is mostly false. Trump’s second claim, that South African farmers are being killed on a “large scale,” is a fiction not supported by data.
We have no clue how this myth about farmers being killed ended up on the president’s Twitter feed. It didn’t come up on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” the Fox News show Trump referenced in his tweet. But it has been swishing in the alt-right and white-nationalist ether for years. The Fox News segment may have jogged Trump’s memory about something he came across previously.

Your analogy of wapo’s despicable and slanderous propaganda to duranty’s is spot on. Trump says: “the large scale killing (of farmers) (which is demonstratively true) and wapo rephrases that as “African farmers are being mass-murdered” - and proceeds to dance between the raindrops on what constitutes “mass-murder” accusing Trump of promoting “the myth of white genocide”.
Wapo can go diddle themselves with their four Pinocchios.

I just watched an interview between Stefan Molyneux and a guy from South Africa a few days ago. The South African listed several people that he knew personally who had been murdered - and these poor people weren't just murdered, but horrifically and systematically tortured before being killed. I think only the Clintons have had as many close associates murdered. I know with absolute certainty that if the roles of victim/murderer were reversed that the Post would consider it newsworthy.
As tragic as all of this is, imagine how much worse it would be if it were about race! Thank goodness it’s not about race.
Another story said he was telling fibs because the murders of White farmers is only 1/3 of what it was 20 years ago....so far...

I teach at a major land Grant University. Over the years, I have had close contact with Africaans students from SA and Zimbabwe whose families farm. One student lost a grandfather to a roving band of blacks while getting mail. Another student from Zimbabwe witnessed his family’s farm stolen and often spoke of their family taking gold out of the country before it was all lost. He spoke how he and his father (and dogs) protected his sister’s and mother at their home compound from a roving band with automatic weapons. Coincidentally, he is now a dept chair at another Major land Grant. Overall great guy!
Especially since the traitor brennan”s clearance was yanked.
Perhaps the author should get himself a SA farm and see what happens.
Notice how the piece offers no data, it just declares PDJT as “wrong” - he must be getting this stuff from white supremacists - asserting facts backed by nothing.

I have a friend working on a post-doc at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. I hope he is going to be OK, and I hope he can get out while the getting is good.
