John McCain, the longtime senator and 2008 GOP presidential candidate who refused to leave fellow prisoners of war behind to escape years of torture in Vietnam, and whose maverick streak as Arizonas senior statesman at times frustrated fellow Republicans and confounded President Donald Trump, has died, his family confirmed in a statement Saturday.
He was 81and had been diagnosed with brain cancer in July 2017.
McCain had decided to discontinue medical treatment for the glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, his family announced on Aug. 24. He had surpassed expectations for his survival, but "the progress of disease and the inexorable advance of age render their verdict," the statement said.

And don't forget what a real hero, Col. David Hackworth found out about McCain. Hackworth said that every man in the Hanoi Hilton with McCain said he was a traitor and collaborator.
His last official act was casting the vote to save ObamaCare. Will not miss this RINO and enemy to veterans one bit.
AMEN, Jane.
RIP
“Watched a relative die that way.”

So did I,she was 47.

In the real world you do well to direct people in the right direction.
Well obviously you haven’t been on any of the other threads that have been running since he announced his brain cancer last year.
Senator McCain treated the families very poorly. He knew what really happened, how our government wouldn't pay ransom for the lives of their loved ones. He lied and he destroyed records.
AMEN, Sarah. I don’t wish this cancer on anyone either (except terrorists and other enemies of the U.S.). But I agree: I can forgive, but I can never forget.
His poor mother. Ugh! The hate to see her suffer. I bet shes a mess.
The President’s words of comfort and support for the family at this difficult time is a perfect response. ‘My deepest sympathies and respect go out to the family of Senator John McCain. Our hearts and prayers are with you!’
And it gives me every satisfaction to add the tag line... President Trump.
Posting somewhat blindly but this may be a test of teumps control of the gop.
Trump in control replacement -> pro wall pro federalist society etc
Otherwise trump not in control
(??)
Teump -> trump
Me too.
Well. Bye.
McCain showed with his actions, his contempt for this President, and this country’s citizens. There’s nothing good to say about him even now that he’s dead. He didn’t hold his hatred back while he was alive. Why should any of us be obliged to?
Thank you for the correction. I have always heard it was McCains fault.
I agree.
Mods, I don’t envy your job, but maybe going through this thread and taking away those bad posts that make FR look like a bunch of people celebrating the death of the man.
I won’t agree with all the applause being shined on him by the Fake News, BUT we need not be joyful at his death. Such emotions show no empathy for those who lost a loved one.
We are better than the ghouls at DU.
Our President tweeted out sympathy and prayers for the family. We ought to do reflect the same.
And those of us who claim the mantle of Jesus Christ have an even higher standard to uphold. Our Creator wants us to love our neighbor. Even when he is wrong. Loving our neighbor CERTAINLY doesn’t mean being gleeful at his death.
Prior to going to Vietnam, I went to SERE training, which had a POW phase including a fenced compound manned by "enemy" guards. We were subjected to various forms of "torture" and physical abuse that caused some people to break in this simulated exercise. The one element that affected people the most was being put into a closed footlocker sized box in the sun for several hours. Those who had a fear of being in small, enclosed spaces (claustrophobia) broke and signed false confessions and read them over a loudspeaker to the prisoners below. A surreal experience.
Any man can be broken. Given McCain's serious injuries, torture, solitary confinement for three years, etc., I won't blame him for his forced recorded statements. No one knows how he or she would react under similar circumstances. McCain was no traitor to his country. He flew 23 combat missions over Vietnam. What have you done for God and country?
The hatchery was a mitigation hatchery to fix the damage from the construction of the Hoover and Davis Dams. Sure, in decades perhaps things would have settled back, but my town is based on the promises of that Congressional Act. The native fish they are trying to reintroduce are the humpback and razorback chubs. One of the stupidest things I have ever done as Supervisor is visit the hatchery and “chip” (insert a microchip) into these baby chubs so that government can track them. They have less than a 1% survival rate. They spend millions of dollars on that. The stocking program is one of the few government programs that make money ($7 back for every $1 spent). That’s the one they wanted to end.
