The Boers did not take the land from black Africans i.e. Bantus. They did take it from Khoi/San- Bushmen which folks are unrelated to the Bantu. They are another race entirely. The Bantu were migrating southward when they met the Boers migrating northward. The Bantu also took land from the Khoi/San and killed as many as they could catch. In the matter of Boer and Bantu, the Boers were there first.

One of the saddest conversations I ever had was talking to an older woman from Rhodesia on the commuter train in Washington DC. She had lost everything, her entire life was behind her in what is now called Zimbabwe. She escaped with only her life in her memories.

One of the most interesting conversations I ever had was with an older woman on an airplane flight to Seattle from Washington DC, she was a nurse in Rommel’s Afrika Corps and she was a grand old lady. I was in uniform and we had a fine flight, When we arrive in Seattle she took this young uniformed petty officer under her wing to his next flight. I respected her military service and was enlightened by our discussion of the times that she had through during World War II campaigns with Field Marshal Rommel.
