The White House has tried threats and bluster, then imposed controversial tariffs. Congress even did something rare, passing a bipartisan bill. But despite President Donald Trump's and lawmakers efforts, China has yet to so much as blink on what Republicans and Democrats agree are its unjust trade practices, administration officials said Thursday.
The two U.S. political parties and Trump rarely find themselves in near-unanimous agreement. But when it comes to what they all see as Chinas habit of stealing American technology and intellectual properties, playing games with its market and currency, and otherwise tipping the global trade scene to benefit its companies and economy, Washington is mostly unified.

The United States hasn't had a Trade Surplus with China in 40 years.
Our current trade situation with China, is horrible. They are ONCE AGAIN heading toward an all-time high record trade surplus with America, this year.
Trump, this is the issue you won on.
Do something.
Everyone will support you. Really.
America has had enough, of being sold out.
End it. Now.
Cut em off. I can live without chinese crap. Japan or Vietnam are always more then willing to pick-up the slack.
We must keep the pressure on.
Trump is doing more than any other president. China is hurting a lot more than we are. Trump and America will win if his supporters have patience.
How is China hurting?
They are running HISTORY’S LARGEST EVER BILATERAL TRADE DEFICIT with America. Biggest ever. In the entire history, of our entire planet.
Right now. The latest month, currently published. This month.
https://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/balance/c5700.html
A world record. Ever. Between any two countries...
How in the world in China “hurting”?
All I see is China taking ever more, American companies over, and selling ever-more to Americans.
For real.
I really do not see China hurting in the least.
Not a bit.
Excuse me.
Should read: History’s largest ever bilateral trade surplus.
Sorry about that. :D
Read the news.
China’s economy is slowing down.
Ours is gaining strength.
What do you think Trump should do that he’s not already doing?
Seems to me all you want to do is piss and moan.
Nope.
I have supported Trump right here on this website, since before he even announced as a candidate.
But he has not acted yet. China continues to completely take advantage of us. Helped by our own business leaders, who are selling out America.
I am very much for America in trade. We are losing massively, the way things are now.
I want him to act, for America.
That is what we elected him for.
Do it.
Do what Einstein?
So what do you think we should do?
Continue to finance, the biggest nation capable of legitimately challenging America, strategically?
I do not think we should do that. I think it is time to turn 180 degrees, in the American direction for a change.
“Globalism” is a trick, but some to make a huge amount selling what were once American assets, off to foreign interests.
Trump is the first American president in an entire generation and a half, who I trust.
The first one.
“by some”
Sorry about that.
“I want him to act, for America.”
That says nothing.
How was what you said, any different?
Our entire manufacturing infrastructure, is sold out.
Everyone.
America really, really, really needs to focus on rebuilding our own country for a change.
Leaders from both parties, have been hopelessly sold out to globalists for an entire generation and a half.
Trump is different. He should stand up, on his principles.
I know he can.
This is when he should. Do not be yet another globalist, selling out America.
Be for America.
If tariffs are so benign on trade, why are other nations engaging in to for tat tariffs?
Why? Levin?
Not knocking Levin but, the evidence of importance to the cheats seems obvious
Further, Canaduh imposes a 300% tax on American dairy preciclesly as a tool to create barriers of protectionism.
Not a national security risk?
They act like the Berbers, as do other nations.
Moreover, what other means do we have to influence a chance in behavior?
If that Chevy which costs $35,000 in the USA costs $60,000 grand in China, why is that not considered punitive and nationalist?
Yep. And just as in real war where real casualties occur, it seems, to me natural l, there will casualties on our side but, not as many on their side and we ultimately win.
China cannot afford trade war or kinetic war
Actually I think Levin is a globalist.
He’s only on Trump’s side now.
Trump won. He won because A LOT OF PEOPLE SUPPORTED HIM.
A lot of people, are sick and tired, of buying imported everything. And even more sick, of building up countries who are completely on the other side of global issues, of big importance. We need America to be strong. We need America to PRODUCE. That has been going the entirely wrong direction, for more than the entire last generation.
Trump is our chance.
It is critical. And now is the time.
Not in a while. Not in a month. Not next year.
Right now.
It is time to bring manufacturing back, to America.
Now.
