The Tet Offensive was the Vietcong’s last ditch attack. By the end of it, the VC had been obliterated as a fighting force. All major engagements henceforth in South Vietnam were conducted by NVA regulars.
You gotta wonder if the Taliban simply cannot take the punishment any more and is now betting everything on one roll of the dice, hoping that Uncle Sam will sue for peace. The problem they have is that unlike during Tet, the US is taking very few casualties, and will take very few during this Taliban offensive. It’s now August, and we’ve lost 5 men so far this year, vs 15 for all of 2017. At this casualty rate, we could stay in Afghanistan for the next 100 years without incurring any significant political opposition stateside.

Doesn’t it get expensive after the second(year)? It’s like a second divorce.
