Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said Sunday that he thinks former CIA Director John Brennan's rhetoric is becoming an issue "in and of itself."
"John and his rhetoric have become an issue in and of itself," Clapper said on CNN's "State of the Union." "John is subtle like a freight train and hes gonna say whats on his mind."
Brennan's claims drew criticism from some in the intelligence community who said the timing was suspect.
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr (R-N.C.) on Thursday took aim at Brennan for "purport[ing] to know, as fact, that the Trump campaign colluded with a foreign power."
If his statement is based on intelligence he has seen since leaving office, it constitutes an intelligence breach. If he has some other personal knowledge of or evidence of collusion, it should be disclosed to the special counsel, not The New York Times, Burr said.
Burr added that Trump has the full authority to rescind security clearance if the statements were purely political and based on conjecture.

Trump is subtle like a freight train, and he’s going to say what’s on his mind. AND, he’s the duly elected President.
I watched some Brennan testimony where he repeatedly called Russia the Soviet Union. I don’t know the date (this year or last), but I really wondered at the time what planet he had been on lately. He wasn’t referring to the past, but to the current state of affairs at the time.
“Weasel relativism”
Love it! Almost like hearing Pelsoi say that Schumer is acting a bit out of line lately....Trump has them all over the place and scattering like cockroaches when the lights come on.
This guy is trying to be the “good cop” since he doesn’t want to lose his clearance.
Exactly
When an anti-Trump spook like Clapper is telling Brennan that the cheese has slid off his cracker, then that’s proof positive that Brennan is a serious threat to the intelligence communities reputation.
Brennan has lost his mind, his soul and his reputation. His actions are treasonous and a future date in a court of law isn’t completely out of the question.
Clapper is the pot calling the kettle black. Clapper said on CNN that the Russian meddling influenced the outcome of the election causing Trump to win narrowly in WI, MI, and PA.
Brennan now has to worry about receiving Classified without a clearance. His own mouth has set him up for prosecution in that event.
Security clearances aren’t a right but a privileged. They are given for the countries benefit not the individuals financial gain. If the country doesn’t need you to have that clearance than the clearance should be pulled.
Of course Clapper, you don't have to be an intelligence wizard to see that. His buds should sign a letter insisting he should shut up as clearly his "First Amendment" Rights are being utilized every day.
Cannibal maggots consuming their own...
He's about as subtle as a fellow muslim in a hijacked Boeing 757.
There's no question what motivates Brennan or where his loyalty lies.
That's wrong. Clapper doesn't 'get it'.
If the United States wants to sell taxpayer paid information to 'the MSM' (so media groups like the NYT and CNN don't have to hire investigative reporters) then taxpayers should get the profit and favors... not former employees.
If a former employee of Coke-a-Cola tries to SELL the secret formula to 'coke' they would be arrested. Selling insider information of former employers is a crime in the real world - - NOT A PERK.
It's not just Brennan's personality.
Same with the Department of Treasury... if retired members of the 'Treasury Community' try to sell government collected information to JP Morgan or Goldman Sachs - they should NOT be able to keep the money or favors they receive. Goldman saves by not having to hire financial analysts but that's NOT the job of taxpayer supported groups to subsidize.
Selling taxpayer collected information to private for profit companies by ANY current or former employee of the Government - Treasury or Intelligence - should be a crime.
