For many ageing politicians, their profound vanity becomes the strongest part of their existence. The same vanity disguised as pride which helped them to achieve status as a younger person, now clouds their vision. They don’t see how their performance is slipping and consider themselves to be indispensible. John McCain is the primary GOP example right now.
