U.S. Steel announced Thursday that it is investing $750 million to revitalize its flagship Gary plant to gear up for increased demand in the wake of President Donald Trumps tariffs on imported steel.
The company said the investment will make significant upgrades to increase efficiencies at the 110-year-old Northwest Indiana plant, which is U.S. Steels largest, employing 3,800 workers.

Democrats Outraged?
I hope Joe and Edith Unionworker take note.
Always good to see more domestic steel production. The mills provide good paying jobs, they employ lots of swinging D's, and they require extensive tooling and equipment.
Gary fricking Indiana. That’s like North Korea announcing its become a capitalist country.
President Trump you magnificent bastard.
I hope the Republican party takes note.
A real estate developer with three ex-wives and as many business bankruptcies is doing things they’ve only talked about since Reagan left office, and he’s doing it with Reagan’s coalition while simultaneously purging the neocons and fighting a rearguard action against a hostile administrative state. And the press corps today makes Sam Donaldson look like a wallflower.
You gotta know how to fight, and you have to have the scars.
When Barry Soetoro was organizing that community, his efforts led to the shut down of that steel plant. Looks like the new community organizer is re-opening it. MAGA!
I’m currently reading through an 8-volume biography of Winston Churchill. In 1917, when he was Minister of Munitions, he wrote memos on the importance of a strong British steel industry to the British effort in fighting World War I.
Same thing applies to the USA in 2018!
If the wun wasn’t so lazy and enjoying the party circles, he’d complain a little.
I totally agree. We should never be dependent on another country for essentials.
This is an amazing bit of winning!
I would sure like to see Baltimore Sparrows Point plant get restarted
I want to be careful how I word this.
But, some liberal types, have been happy to see factories and industrial facilities shutting down. Among their reasons are that such facilities produce pollution.
They ignore the fact that great strides have been made, to reduce pollution from these facilities.
So it stands to reason, that with the liberal eco nazi focus on global warming and greenhouse gas and all that, that even the much cleaner industrial facilities of today, would still be objectionable to them, regardless of whatever economic benefit comes from them.
That won’t happen. Most if not all of the old Bethlehem Steel Plant at Sparrows Point has been torn down. The property was bought by a foreign energy company and is used for LNG Storage.
Liberals are Luddites and hate machinery.
Very true.
