She's 87 years old and you assume that she actually heard them? I am sixty and legally deaf and even with the best hearing aids that money can buy I have trouble understanding conversation in many environments. But as other have implied, this is not about public service, rational thought ,or anything other than LEO getting home to their families.

She's 87. It is very easy for older people to be simply confused, or even petrified with fear.
How do you know that at 87, she can even hear at all?
I've got significant age-related hearing loss and I'm only 66.
Good thing she didn't have a little-bitty 5 pound dog. They'd probably both be dead 'cuz the three armed officers had a credible fear for their lives.
