Yes, this is a REAL election - in November
So the real election is not being held until all the others in Nov? Is this some dumbass poll?
Sure, I’ll explain Hogan’s appeal in Maryland. He is pasty-white, obese, unattractive, listless, mundane, uninspiring, has no core convictions, and stands for nothing. In other words, he’s the perfect Maryland republican.... As for Ben Jealous, there is no way that the upscale white voters in suburban DC are going to vote for the former NAACP chairman from Baltimore. Maryland’s white “progressives” will rationalize voting for Hogan on issues other than race but, trust me, these race frauds won’t vote for a black guy, e.g., “Gee, I really like Hogan’s public transit proposals better, blah, blah, blah.” That answer your question, Speedy?
Jealous is unelectable.
The race card has worn out Americans.
Hogan will win, but he should not take the election for granted, Maryland is a liberal state.
Maryland ? You are kidding me ? That state is almost as liberal as Baltimore
Larry Hogan is at best center right. He’s very strong on business friendliness and taking action. Very weak on Second Amendment issues.
When the Freddie Gray riots occurred, the Democrat mayor and council were nearly invisible. Hogan literally moved his office to Baltimore for a few weeks and was visible and walking the streets helping restore order. That solidified his support among many Baltimore residents.
Being the liberal cesspool Maryland is, he’s about the best we’ll ever have. With some noseplugging, I’ll cast my vote his way.
How about F*** Stick?
Gotta have that truth in advertising.
Ya think?
This poll is the real deal. Hes a unicorn - thats why I posted the Unicorn Song in post #1 !!!
The Blue Wave is apparently starting, in Maryland, eh?
This explains, more than anything, how states like Maryland, Vermont and Massachusetts can elect GOP governors-- they don't want to pay the full fare on the Progressive $#*+ they love so much.
In Annapolis, they love the guvnah!
Underneath it all, Mr. Hogan is a pretty standard ‘80s-era Republican: fiscal conservative, low taxes, modest regulation, pro-life, patriotic.
To win office, he had to publicly agree to emasculate himself on the issue of abortion (Marylanders overwhelmingly love baby murder), promise heaven and earth to protect the Chesapeake Bay (a sacrament peculiar to the Maryland denomination of the Party of Satan religion) and he had to promise to work productively with a legislature controlled overwhelmingly by the POS.
He’s done pretty well keeping the bloated Maryland budget from growing, thus keeping taxes from rising, and taking the sting out of some of the more obnoxious tax and fee hikes. He’s improved the business climate (which since we were near the bottom of the country, wasn’t difficult), and hasn’t harmed the reputation of public education in the state. He was hands-on and take charge during the freddie gray fiasco, and he hasn’t disturbed the peace on social issues.
I’d give him a D+, making him easily the best governor of Maryland in the last half century, and possibly, in the history of the state.
I lived in Maryland for 30 years, 1981-2011.
Hogan has a history, as his father was a congressman and a county executive. He’s got a nice personality and he comes across as a non-threatening, good guy. To date, he’s run a scandal free administration; he reduced the toll on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge; and he has tempered the unhinged crazies in the Maryland General Assembly.
Maryland has elected liberal Republicans in the past such as Charles Mathias (preceded Barf Mikulski in the US Senate), Bob Ehrlich as Governor, Connie Morella and Gilbert Gude as US Reps from the Montgomery County area; and don’t forget Spiro Agnew as Baltimore County executive and governor.
I would think the big question in Maryland politics this year is how large his coattails are; the GOP trails badly in both houses of the legislature, but surprisingly they are at historic high water marks, and they could go quite a bit higher. They trail 50-91 in the House of Delegates and 14-33 in the state Senate. It takes a 3/5 majority to override vetoes, so the GOP needs to get to 57 seats in the House and/or 19 seats in the Senate to sustain vetos.
One other thing; Hogan was diagnosed with cancer right after he was sworn in, and he fought with courage and good humor, and it appears that he in cancer free at the moment. Thus, people who might be political enemies have sympathy and good wishes for him.
Hogan has taken great pains to disassociate himself from Trump. Thus, the ‘Rats will have great difficulty successfully morphing Hogan into Trump.
Ben Jealous is a Bernie Sanders candidate. He simply is not being taken seriously. Further, no Black candidate has ever been elected to statewide office in his own right (they have had a succession of Black lt. gov’s, including the incumbent, a good guy named Boyd Rutherford, but they run as part of a ticket). The ‘Rat candidate in 2014, Anthony Brown (now a congresscritter), was a lot more palatable than Jealous, and Hogan bean Brown easily.
