Two men identified in fatal fight on I-5; witnesses say one chased the other with a bat

The two men who were killed early Sunday morning after a vehicle collision caused a fight on Interstate 5 in Natomas were identified Monday.

Their vehicles hit each other in the northbound lanes of I-5 around 3:44 a.m., prompting the men to drive farther up the freeway near Del Paso Road, get out of their cars and fight, California Highway Patrol spokesman Mike Zerfas said.

Jason Dykes of Sacramento was killed in the fight, the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office said. The Coroner’s Office identified the other man as Jose Rodriguez-Carrasco of Oroville. Witnesses said one man was chasing the other with a bat, according to police dispatch traffic archived on Broadcastify.com.

Dykes, 39, was killed in the fight after suffering what appeared to be blunt force trauma, Zerfas said.

Then, Rodriguez-Carrasco, walking north on the freeway, was hit and killed by passing driver, Zerfas said.

I would support your view, and I am skeptical that this was a mutual road rage incident.

I would suspect that Jose Rodriguez-Carrasco was driving recklessly and may have caused the accident. Possibly he was a violent criminal and had no intention of exchanging information with the other driver, and he had no intention of waiting for the police to arrive. It might be possible that the other driver was angry, and it is possible that he could have been angry enough to fight, but regardless of his reaction, he ended up being a homicide victim. Jose Rodriguez-Carrasco may have been trying to leave the area when he was struck.

lets just suppose he was working the night shift and on the way home some road rager attacks him rams his car chases him down and beat his head with a bat, then the victim gets accused of being a road rage idiot.

I have been attacked by road rage idiots for absolutely NO reason whatsoever and was lucky to escape. Might not have that option if attempting to get ID for insurance.

I survived the I-5 between LA and
Newport Beach. All I can say is I’m
glad I don’t have to make that drive
as a regular commute. It’s no wonder
these two suffered from road rage.
PS....Houston is just as bad, or worse
during rush hour.

Back in the early 90’s, I drove a 40 foot Ryder truck through Houston (coming from Patrick AFB going to another AFB). I think it was I-10...

Scared the crapola out of me (and was very surprised I never hit anything >.<).

I was lucky to have a flexible
work schedule and would try to
get to work by 4:00 am. Thereby
missing the morning and afternoon
rush hours, after putting in my
typical 12 hour day. 8 lanes on
I-10 each way, and all two feet
off your rear bumper, going 80.
Traveling back into Houston on
a holiday, I once spent 5 hours
traveling 20 miles on I-10, 50
miles outside of Houston.

A young guy bumped me when I stopped for a yellow light years ago (Before CHL). I pulled up into a business parking lot and he came out of his car with what looked like half of a Louisville Slugger. I showed him my double barrelled 45 Long Colt Derringer and said “If you have the other half of that bat I’ll be able to plug both holes before EMS gets here.” He got back in his car and drove away.

How do they know the guy who died of blunt force trauma was trying to fight this guy who had the bat? Maybe he was trying to get information for the accident. Witnesses saw him running away from the bat wielding scumbag. That doesn’t sound like a fight to me.
