Thanks! Interesting history about Sambos - we used to go to one in San Clemente. At 10 pm the place would be full of drunk Marines (god bless em)
I don’t think I ever ate at the one in San Clemente. When we went to the State Park to vacation, we liked to eat at Landell’s, a family-owned coffee shop near Avenida Calafia. In 1973, Leonid Brezhev’s KGB security guards had lunch there—their boss was in town for a summit meeting with President Nixon at his Western White House. On one occasion, I talked to some of them.
We also liked to eat at Dave’s a Mexican restaurant that catered to surfers. For years, while driving along the coast, I would time my trip to hit Dave’s at mealtime.
