Senator Grassley went to the mat for President Trump to get Sessions confirmed. He along with McTurtle were the ones I believe who stated there wouldn't be another AG confirmed. Together they have been instrumental in getting judges through the pipeline for PDJT and that might be a big factor why Our President is reluctant to fire the dirt bag.
Sessions was just about the only senator who came out supporting DJT during the lead-up to his nomination and worked hard for his election. Trump is probably hesitant to fire him for any of the above reasons, but it would be music to his ears to hear that Sessions had resigned.
At some point during or after the election Sessions got the message that he would regret ever resigning as AG for ...whatever reason. Willingly or otherwise, Jeff Sessions has become a vital part of the conspiracy to either hamstring or better yet, unseat our President.
A pro active attorney general would have been an enormous asset in draining the swamp or at least prosecuting many of the criminal factions in the bureaucracy. The Left is not attacking Jeff Sessions except in regard to the few moves he is making on illegal aliens. For the most part they have ignored him over the past 18 months and that speaks volumes to me.

Good points. We needed all hands on deck to have a slim chance of wresting control of our corrupt fed govt from the rabid left...Sessions betrayal made that task all but impossible
".....On June 26, 2014, in a 90 ruling, the United States Supreme Court validated this practice of using pro forma sessions to block the president from using the recess appointment authority...."
