It is sickening and evil that such a heinous man lived 33 years after the most brutal of crimes. God is dealing with him now and for all eternity. I weep for that little girl and her family.
One thing I learned from another article today (above) in The Tennesseeanis that the little girl's mother and stepfather had reason to believe that Irick was mentally ill, and knew for a certainty, that he'd been drinking and doing drugs --- yet they dumped their little girl in his "care" when they went off to work.
In so many of these hideous situations the parent(s) knew the "babysitter" was grossly unfit but left their child at his mercy anyhow.
I will never be able to understand that in a million years. A mother's instinct to protect her child is just so incredibly strong. But not, I know, for all.
