Really, I wonder what part of the Bible he got that from?
There may be something to what he says, not the location in heaven, but them being drenched in the awful realization of the horror of their sins forever. People cannot yet comprehend the absolute horribleness of our sins. When our eyes are opened we will be extremely horrified and sorry. As Christians our tears will be wiped away and we will live in glory forever, eternally in blissful happiness.
I would guess a large amount of the suffering of those in hell will be to be aware of the magnitude of the awfulness of their sins. The anguished suffering for their sins will likely be at least as horrible as the flames. An example will be the knowledge of how many are there with them because of their influence on their lives. Think about, for example, how horrible it would be to know that you led your beloved children into eternal hell.
