How the hellaciously stupid that anyone could speak of a 'right' to surrogacy.
If one person has a right, that means some of us (or all of us) have duties, right? Rights, really? You might as well say a gay man who wants a baby as a lifestyle accessory can draft a woman to carry the baby.
Nobody has a right to surrogacy. It shouldn't even be allowed. It's just commercial reproductive concubinage, with the child given over as quasi-property in exchange for cold cash.
These exchanges are governed by property law - contract law - not family law. They are not about best meeting the child's needs, but in best gratifying the adults' wants. They are not grounded in the well-being of the child, but in the vested interests of the contracting parties.
And surrogacy intentionally, by plan, deprives the baby of all of his natural rights: the right to bond with his mother before and after birth; the right to be secure in her arms through his childhood; the right to claim -- or at least know the identity of --- his natural mother and father; the right to take his place in an identifiable natural kinship system; to know who his genetic forebears are; to have his personal and interpersonal humanity acknowledged even in the means by which he is conceived --- are abrogated from the git-go.
Surrogacy is the necessary reproductive technology to enable thousands of perverted men to acquire children as a kind of expensive hobby or pricey pet.
The "Right to surrogacy." should be trash-canned along with the "right to slavery." You can't own another human being that way.
This is so sad when the kid becomes a status symbol.
That’s generally a recipe for an ill-treated child who goes on to spread chaos in the world.
