Over 30 years ago, the 4-H Council made all clubs who had a gender specific title either change their names or disband. Many of the clubs in our area were devastated. One gender specific club had been in existence for over 20 years and others for at least 10. Because these clubs were a vital part of their rural communities they changed their names but did not change the way they operated their clubs.
