Europe is set to reach its hottest day ever as dangerous temperatures up to 48C are expected to hit Spain and Portugal this weekend.
The hottest temperature ever recorded in Europe was on 10 July 1977 when Athens in Greece reached 48C.
Portugals record is 47.4C set in 2003.
Met Office forecaster John Hammond said of the European heatwave: Hell is a place on earth as Iberia heats up.
At least three people have died as a result of the extreme weather.

That is Phoenix hot.
And of course this is due to global warming. No other explanation. If we only buy our carbon credits, life will be wonderful.
Heck I didn’t even make my donation to the Clinton foundation yet. My bad.
This is what we get because the United States elected a President who doesn't believe in man-made Globull Warming.
You my FRiend are a BAD. BAD, BAD person. You should be ashamed. You know. Like I am.
The more you deny it the worse it gets!

Burn, baby, burn!

...
1977 was back when they were warning us about Global Cooling.
Should have stuck with Fahrenheit, 45 F is a breeze!
I spent my coldest Summer ever there back in the early 70’s. Never took off my jacket.
Many parts of the Iberian peninsula are desert. A lot of “Spaghetti Westerns” were filmed there.
Malachi Chapter 4:
“For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of Hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
But unto you that fear my name shall the sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings...”
Next time I go to Spain I want to go to Extremadura.
Maybe it’s because they’ve brought in all those desert-rats and they’ve brought their weather with them so they’ll feel more at home.
Makes as much sense as GoreBull Warming.
Yeah, ordinary day in Phoenix. My neighbor's daughter lives in Phoenix, was mentioning temps in the high teens to low twenties. Wow. My granddaughter is in Austin, told her she shouldn't complain about the 109 F heat there, nothing compared to Phoenix. Europeans are fragile things.
I made a trip over the hill this morning grocery shopping. It’s in the 90’s here in Willow Creek and around 100 to the east in the Redding fires but when I got to Arcata I had the wipers on and the heater. They make it sound as Europe experiences uniform heat.
No matter how you cut it 118 degrees is hot. I wouldn’t call people fragile for that.
I got family in Phoenix. One summer it was really hot. It was so hot that the asphalt at the airport was melting. And, they reported that it was only 128 F when it was really over 135 F. They didn’t report the real temperature for fear of people going crazy. You know most temp gauges only go up to 120 F.
In 2011, wife and I were in Spain. Went in May. After visiting Madrid, we went to Seville. Temps in high 90s. We asked one of the locals what they did in summer months. She said everyone went to the mountains.
Has anyone yet said, But it is a dry heat.
Madonna’s fault
