This has been a long time coming, and it started back in the days of Lyndon B. Johnson and him trying to get a Head Start. The more the Federal Gov;t gets involved the more broken things become. Time to turn it over to parents to fix this.

Public school FAIL: 40% of Americans can't name even ONE right contained in the 1st Amendment

FAIL? Is it failing in its aim because 60% can still name at least one of the rights?

I remember back in 1963 when I was in the 8th grade, we studied the Constitution, had to memorize President Kennedy’s entire cabinet, complete a large note book on the Constitution, and pass a difficult oral and written test in order to graduate and continue on to high school.

The teaching of history was absolutely awful when I went to school (90’s for middle and high school). They barely taught us anything.

One wonders if a greater percentage might be more familiar with the 5th Amendment.

No...it’s not a fail. It’s intentional.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

A few months back there were some very good history books recommended and discussed here on FR.

Does anyone recall what they were?

The President has to rework the educational system. Make certain topics mandatory.

This survey says volumes about why homeschooling is so important today. And will become even more vital in the future.

New version of the First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law allowing an establishment of religion by the People, or allowing the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech except for right-wing-nuts, or of the press no matter how subversive its lies become; or the right of the left-wing people peaceably to assemble and riot because their violence is invariably caused by the intolerant right wing folks who actually know how to peacefully assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances - which will be temporarily denied with the option to re-petition in 90 days for final denial.

I think i got it...anyone see a problem with it?

There are no rights in the [liberal] 1st Amendment, only government protected “privileges” for their preferred classes.

I am not surprised so many liberally educated cannot name one right.

I disagree . For many LIB “educators “ the goal is to brainwash. They despise free thought and abhor critical thinking. They want mindless, uninformed automatons.
