Thank you. Sounds a bit kooky. Again, good for her for helping to get this guy. I used to wonder how people could get roped into some of the 9/11 conspiracies and such.
A few months ago, my daughter asked me to explain 9/11 and the building collapsing. She watched a Youtube video that convinced her that the planes didn’t make the towers collapse. This is MY daughter with a 4.11 GPA in a private high school. She is very mature and a very critical thinker for her age (16). She is also a bit stubborn. I was a bit stunned.
It took me longer than I would have expected to explain the engineering to her and then the nature of these “convincing” pieces of evidence and conspiracies. It ended up being a good lesson for her. But it was also educational for me. I will not take for granted that someone duped into faith in a crazy conspiracy if simply an idiot. Instead, it is important to discredit their proof, intellectually and with some respect, as hard as it might be.
This is covered in Newt Gingrich book "Understanding Trump"
Calls them IYI's...that is Intellectual Yet Idiot
See his Chapter 4.
(It's not a bad book, mostly re-hash of what is already known...however still doesn't get into what makes Trump tick)
My Niece is a Middle School Teacher and has an MBA.
She watched that 9/11 Conspiracy Movie and bought it hook, line and sinker.
When I tried to explain the reality to her, she didn’t want to discuss it.
