10 and/or 20 years ago any suggestion of a National ID would have caused a days long argument here on FR.

Is the voter ID to be a national ID, that is part of that RealID?
I’ve had a voter ID card for decades, albeit not one with a photo.

That process started 45 years ago, when the government required every newborn receive a social security card. But a voter ID is not required for every citizen -— only those who are old enough and want to vote. Just like a drivers license isn’t required unless you are old enough, and want to drive. I understand the argument, though. And it’s going to happen, eventually, just like the prophecy says; we can’t stop it, though we may be able to slow it down some.
