Sessions, IMHO, has acted highly unethically.

He took the job as AG, but then immediately recused himself, on the flimsiest of pretexts. I believe he knew he would do this, and is doing so for political reasons. He lied to his boss about his willingness, and fitness, to do his job.

Does anyone think that Trump would have appointed the worst AG in America's history if he had the least suspicion that once installed in office he would recuse? At the confirmation hearings I believe this came up and perhaps Trump "should have" withdrawn his name right then. Don't know if that is even possible in the corrupt Deep State and all their byzantine rules.
