Crowley, the man Ocasio-Cortez defeated in the primary, is still on the ballot. I haven’t read anything about him actually campaigning. But Joe Lieberman has asked voters in the district to vote for Crowley. I was hoping that O-C was all in with the 16,000 votes she received in the primary and the larger district would just vote for Crowley. But with Crowley not apparently actively campaigning and the media making a rock star out of O-C it seems a dim prospect come November.
The thing is, if O-C gets elected the Democrats will be forced to give her an outsized role in government because of her popularity and the dazzle created around her by the media. She may even end up, eventually, being a presidential candidate. All it takes to get her elected will be the perfect storm of an unpopular war and a bad economy occurring at the same time and we’ll have somebody in office who is potentially more damaging than Obama was. I’d be tempted to send Crowley a donation if it appeared he was actually running for the office. Keeping O-C out of office would be about a pound of prevention.
