Of course it is extortion. Prosecutors operate in a way that is illegal for the rest of us. If we threaten to bring up charges on someone for an illegal activity conditioned on some action taken by that same someone, we would be criminally liable. But prosecutors see that as a way to squeeze information, whether truthful or untruthful, out of the people they target.

It is tantamount to a coerced confession and should not even be allowed as evidence in court.

BTW: Aren’t these charges being levied against Manafort based on supposed criminal activity which occurred long before he joined the Trump campaign?!

Mulehead is an imbecile then, Presidential pardon will spring Manafort before year’s end.

"This whole thing is absurd."

No it's not absurd. It is a demonstration of a gaping great hole in American justice. Using blackmail against a citizen to force him to lie in order to make the prosecutor look good and get a conviction. Didn't they do something similar at the Salem Witch Trials?

I am disgusted at the apparent easy acceptance by the press and the public of putting the squeeze on a witness and the so-called perjury trap.

You gotta’ hand it to Dershowitz. The guy tries to explain the rule of law, and keeps getting attacked by the same people he assumed were friends and associates for years. I’d like to hope that his experience will open his eyes, and realize what a rabid group of mangy critters he’s associated himself all this time.

At some point, either we kick Mueller to prison for outright extortion and the suborning of perjury, or we become the Soviet Union.

My money's on the latter.

I suspect Manafort expects, nay, knows, he will, if convicted, be pardoned at the appropriate time. Pardoning him before this crap is finally dealt with would be “Obstruction of Justice.”

Nat Hentoff was a similar liberal - an actual liberal!

I respect them greatly; they possess moral courage, a rare thing among their contemporaries.

Suddenly the left is all pro-waterboarding. McCain would probably hop right out of his bed to get those torture confessions.

I don’t hand anything to Dershowitz. He wasn’t thinking of the Constitutional rights of the 16 year old he kept having sex with.

What? Never heard that story. If true, how come he still has his law license?

I guess Dersh likes the innocent until proven guilty thing.

Virginia Roberts was Jeffrey Epstein’s favorite underaged sex slave, kept mostly for himself but shared with some famous few. At 16 she remembers Epstein conferring with attorney Alan, and Epstein having her service himself while Dersh was in the room. She said the lawyer just watched and watched. On later appointments, Epstein told Virginia to go in and have sex with Dershowitz. They had sex over 5 times, in Epstein’s houses in various states, and on his plane. Virginia testified to all this under oath. When I read her testimony it was extremely believable, She was not salacious and she was very honest about what she had seen Bill Clinton do and not do. Epstein told her he needed to have something on these men.

Online now you mostly just see Dersh’s denials. Having been in Virginia’s situation it is all too believable to me that important men get away with the worst behavior with kids.

Mueller and Weissmann would have him make it up.

This is exactly what happened in the Enron-Merrill Lynch case, and for the real dirty facts, real Sidney Powell’s “Licensed to Lie” to show the creeps and unethical liars who Mueller hired to go after Trump.

Thanks for the info. I did some searching. Records showed Dershowitz flew on the plane four times. Her lawyers filed a defamation suit again Dershowitz but they turned around and withdrew their request for summary judgement. They settled out of court. Whether the allegations are true or not, I find it rather interesting that none of the people attacking Dershowitz over his defense of the law at it regards the Mueller investigation, have thrown any of these allegations at Dershowitz, or referred to it, especially in light of the popularity of the #MeToo movement.

If he was the deep state mole then he probably would be placed in protective custody rather than solitary confinement in jail as has been reported.

The judge has already indicated his distaste for team Mueller. He could convict Manafort and then ignore the prosecution’s recommendations and give him the typical sentence. That would be the fair thing to do.

"It is tantamount to a coerced confession"

Worse than that, the process is the punishment. This court case, regardless of it's merit, will end up costing him millions.

Manafort has the millions to spend but Papawhatever doesn't, Cohen doesn't and Flynn doesn't. What do they do when faced w/ financial ruin?

This is a travesty. Congress needs to step up and ensure this can never happen again in the so-called "land of the free".
