Tesla owners fume about delays for service
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | July 27, 2018 | Russ Mitchell

As Tesla ramps up its Fremont factory to escape what Elon Musk called “production hell” with its new Model 3 electric sedan, some customers are enduring their own state of suffering trying to get Teslas serviced.

Parts shortages, long repair delays and problems getting through on customer help lines have led to scenes of strife at Tesla’s service centers.

“Eight Tesla charging stations in the middle of nowhere.”

As you correctly point out regarding Van Horn...even most cars have to stop there for fuel. If no place to charge the Tesla bricks, then no way for the bricks to get from El Paso to San Antonio, unless their owner brings 25 full-sized solar panels and lays them out for a full day (in summer)...LOL.

So it is needed, but my guess is that the first one cost X dollars, and then the next seven cost (together) cost less then than even the first one, so why not make it an ‘in your face moment’ to send a message to the planet-destroyers...doesn’t cost much more.

“Tesla doesn’t buy advertising in the SF Chronicle or any other paper.”

Too late now, they should have.

Robert Plant’s “Big Log” plays in the background as that scene plays out in my mind.

The reviews I’ve seen from people who actually own the cars mainly talk about the performance and handling.

...that’s before they’re spending MONTHS waiting on parts. Unless those people are lying, that is.

The Tesla owners I see drive like 80-year old grannies. Tesla owners aren’t people whose other cars are Dodge Demons or AMG Mercedes.

Yea, but they can! Not much different than the people who I work with that drive there in pickups every day. Do they use their pickups for the jobs they’re made for? Of course not, their land is about 1/6th of an acre, but their justification is that they COULD use their pick up if they ever, perhaps, bought a new refrigerator (it never occurs to them that for $50 they could get it delivered).

Most people don’t have to wait for parts because they don’t need them. When they do need service, and a mobile crew can’t fix it, they get a loaner car. The majority of owners love Tesla customer service.

If people want to feel smug they can buy a used Nissan Leaf for much less.

From you?

Here’s a site you can check:

https://www.teslarati.com/

Plus there are multiple Tesla forums where owners post their experiences. Not all good, but mostly good.

Here’s some recent free good publicity from the WSJ:

Went on a Test ride in Tigard, OR. When asked on FB whether I was buying the car, I replied with “Nope, just setting some goals in life.” Man is this thing a blast! Model 3 Performance

...

I just test drove the white model 3 they have there a couple days ago!! It was awesome and was a fun little activity to do while on vacation.

...

I live in Beaverton. Got my model 3 about a month ago. Amazing car! Dream car!

...

I was just there on Sunday. The white interior is gorgeous. Can’t wait for my test drive on Wednesday!

...

The super comfortable seat cushioned us as we launched onto the freeway! Hope you have a grand old time!

...

Macadam has a 2+ month wait for their test drives (overheard in showroom). They said each eligible employee is doing 7+ test-drives a day.

I didn’t write the article...perhaps you think they’re all just BS’ing because they shorted Tesla?

And you cannot even COME CLOSE to a Tesla when you want to make your ‘friends’ feel like crap for ruining the planet.

The article references online forums, and it’s true that there are some part delays at this time. My point is that few owners on a percentage basis are affected by it, and that most Tesla owners are very happy with customer service.

As to smugness, once again referencing online forums, It’s something I just don’t see. The number one topic is handling and performance.

Teslas also go through tires.

But they’re good for the environment.
