Dogged by accusations of political money laundering, Los Angeles school board member Ref Rodriguez pleaded guilty Monday to a felony count of conspiracy and resigned from office as part of an agreement with prosecutors.

In the deal, Rodriguez, 47, who had no previous criminal record, will avoid jail time. Instead, he will get three years’ probation and 60 days of community service. His resignation was effective immediately.

He could rat out far worse.

I thought the Feebs were supposed to go after government corruption. Guess kleptocrats in NYS aren’t the only perps on the public payroll getting a pass....

So he never made a dime off the conspiracy business? Or is that just the way they wrote the article? Seems like IRS would be interested in the guy.

Wow! Not what I was expecting when I read the entire LA Times article. This prosecution was for rather routine campaign finance violations Dimocrats do every election cycle. This time, a charter schools advocate was prosecuted for money laundering instead of campaign finance violations for some reason. The amounts pale in comparison to the “Buddhist monestary” contributions Al Gore received on his 1996 L.A. trips where he raised 55,0000 at a single “luncheon.”

Without justifying this guy’s actions, it does raise questions about equal justice. I have no opinion at this point.

It appears that he was laundering his own money through straw-man donors, although it would have been legal to give it to himself. LAUSD school board members are allowed to spend an unlimited amount of their own money on their election campaigns.

The whole thing appears to be over another issue, which involves charter schools and union politics.

“will avoid jail time.”

Until we start putting these crumbs in JAIL for the max, especially crumbs like Hitlery, we might as well just say take all you want, it is free.
