We normies just want fun, family-friendly movies. We are sick to death of “pushing the envelope” which has long fallen off whatever cliff they were aiming for.

This.

This is why I sometimes avoid new movies, shows, and even novels. I have never had a need or a desire for pushing the envelope. Perfect example is a show I never watch but have seen 1/2 an episode of: Shameless. It is not funny nor enlightening to be shocked by decivilization. The only thing interesting to me, in boorish, shocking behavior, is as a forensic anthropologist. In which field I do have some training. Why do people wish to completely obliterate etiquette and social rules, which on a basic level simply equal kindness? Now, finding the answer to that actually interests me.

You can have all kinds of intrigue, surprise, and even violence in well-done shows like Breaking Bad. But the least creative kind of plot is one in which people simply behave crudely. It may be shocking for a millisecond but it is dull for hours.
