WEYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — Taylor Swift is helping ease the pain of a Massachusetts city mourning the recent loss of a police officer.

Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund tells The Patriot Ledger that Swift donated “a significant number of tickets” to the town for her shows this weekend in Foxborough, which were distributed among city police officers.

....

Hedlund says there were enough to send “every police officer, firefighter and extended family to the concert, and then some.” The extras were passed on to other nearby police departments.

There are three stories about this right now and none of them have all the information.

According to The Patriot Ledger

“My understanding is that they did it low-key and weren’t looking for publicity,” Hedlund said. “There were enough to send every police officer, firefighter and extended family to the concert, and then some.”

On the website Faith Wire:

Chesna joined the U.S. Army following the deadly terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, knowing it would bring him closer to fulfilling his childhood dream of becoming a police officer.

He is survived by his wife Cynthia and their two children, 9-year-old Olivia and 4-year-old Jack.

Taylor literally puts her money where her mouth is.

Why do these horrible things happen to our best and their families?

Very good of Taylor to do this, I just grieve for his family.

"...they did it low-key and weren’t looking for publicity,”

Yep. That's the way to do a good deed. I like her better all the time.

There is an ongoing problem of concerts not being sold out. Sorry, I don’t believe she would spread tickets around if they could all be sold. She fills seats and gets good press. That’s the only reason the tickets were pased out.

She has a history of being thoughtful during police tragedies.

But then again, maybe you’re right. She just wanted fannies in the seats./s

Taylor has no problem selling out concerts. Take it for what it is....a charitable and kind gesture

I can appreciate the sentiment, but do mourning people really want to go out to a splashy show?

For all the distortions of her early life and great fame and fortune, Swift continues to show unusual thoughtfulness.

It will be really interesting to see her direction as she matures.

Not just police tragedies. She’s been unusually considerate of her fans and more.

Notable given her long-time environment.

Some will go, some will sell them, and some will regift them. That’s not the point.

This happened in the town next to mine to the north. The funeral was in the town next to mine to the south. Every flagpole, gatepost, business sign, lamppost, utility pole, and front door had either a blue ribbon or a flag flying. Every Police and Fire Department in New England sent representatives to the funeral procession, which took four hours to pass by my street.

Everybody in our community were touched by this.

Thank you, Taylor Swift. None of the other Hollywood-types gave us a second thought.

God Bless You.

I applaud what appears to be a thoughtful gesture.

OTOH, I’d view enduring a Taylor Swift concert as a curse rather than a blessing. I guess her music doesn’t speak to me. Disclaimer: I have not previously nor do I now self-identify as a 13 year old girl, so maybe that’s why I’m missing her appeal.

Taylor is a true American.

Thank You for those other links Dana1960. That is exactly what I mean. She leads by deeds and not words.

Left that other site, your story brought a tear to my eye this afternoon. Thank You for sharing.

My heart goes out to Officer Chesna's wife and two small children. It is tragic and needless.

Some people take fame and do actual good with it. Quietly. I can think of Jay Leno, Donald Trump, and Taylor Swift as 3 who always have.
