Former Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson is considering jumping into the race for the U.S. Senate in New Mexico, raising the profile of a race that Democrats seeking to capture the majority in Congress had seen as a safe seat.
Johnson consultant Ron Nielson told The Associated Press on Friday that the former governor is strongly considering running if Libertarian candidate Aubrey Dunn quits the race as expected.
He is weighing it over right now, Nielson said. He doesnt want to get into a race he cant win. [ ]
During the presidential campaign, Johnson vowed to cut military spending, raising eyebrows in his home state, which relies on its three military bases to help offset its status as one of the poorest states in the nation.
As governor, Johnson was known for vetoing bill after bill before he became a national curiosity for advocating legalized marijuana.
He was nicknamed Governor Veto for 700-plus vetoes during his two terms in Santa Fe.

He seemed to be giving the Gaydar some significant pings..
“I believe that Johnson is deep state.”
You couldn’t be more wrong. He is more like a man without a party, just following his own star. And he has become an odd style libertarian (ie..pushes gun control) He isn’t deep state, he has no influence or power anywhere anymore.
...Why would Johnson want a Dem to win the seat? Seriously...
For the same reason the Republican establishment wanted Hellary to win.
“Not just his politics that have changed. He had a reputation as a really clean-cut guy: no alcohol, running marathons, strict diet, etc.”
All that is the same with him. His politics are all that went weird with him. He isn’t a doper. He merely pointed and points out that he used in college and thinks people shouldn’t be incarcerated for it. Calls it a bad choice, but says it is’t governments job to decide for you.
Also goes on hard about Bush, Obama, Gore, Clinton, etc that all used it, then have the brass balls to lock up others who do exactly what they did.
He still lives the clean and healthy life. I have no idea what sent his politics so far off the rails though.
“When a person radically changes temperament and philosophy there is generally a very bad reason for it. “
Just don’t know. He and his wife split up, and she died very soon after. Then seeing how nobody could get into a debate unless they were an approved GOP/DNC candidate I think embittered him. Also, he was still a sane guy when he made his dope arguments, but long time GOP “friends” turned on him hard and in a fairly insulting manner. That hit him pretty hard. I can’t say for sure, but I think a couple of things like that kinda turned him in a bad direction.
In 2016 he was unrecognizable from his old self. Also he had several very angry outbursts.
The creepy tongue gag not a big hit with the females...
It happened when he was running for the Libertarian nomination.
“The nomination was strongly contested by two other candidates, Austin Petersen and John McAfee. Austin Petersen came in second, John McAfee came in third. When Johnson won the nomination, Austin Peterson pledged his support, and he did so with a dramatic flourish. From libertyhangout.org:
As a token of good faith, Austin gave Johnson a replica of George Washingtons flintlock pistol, to let him know that he has Austins full support in the general election. Tearing up on the front stage of the convention floor, Austin said to Gary as he presented him with the pistol, You have my sword, and you have my gun.
In a video, Austin Petersen explains that the gun is a prized possession, and that he is giving it to Gary Johnson. The pistol is a flintlock replica of one of George Washington’s guns. It thus has multiple symbolic meanings to Second Amendment supporters. It represents liberty, limited government, the Second Amendment, and the Constitution that George Washington helped to write.
It was a dramatic bit of political theater.
The Libertarian Presidential candidate, Johnson threw it in the trash. The pistol, as part of a matched pair of firing replicas, sells for about $2,500.”
Why would Johnson want a Dem to win the seat? Seriously.

Establishment UNIPARTY, as simple as that.
What is Aleppo.

A brand of dog food?
Democrats are assured of wining it anyway with out him in the race so there is nothing to lose.

Spoken like a true DEFEATIST.
Most likely, a staffer realized it wasn't worth much and tossed it. But even if Gary Johnson himself threw that away, it's not a statement about his 2A policy.
Never saw this before!!
Creepy. Does he has some sort of medical issue?
You must have him mixed up with someone else.
The Libertarian Party is a collection of freaks and unicorn-chasers. It is easily the worst-representation of a logical, widespread political philosophy I have ever seen.
And I say that as someone with very strong Libertarian beliefs.
He made a bundle in construction (Big J), but his wife Dee was the real brains of the outfit. He was very athletic, and when she developed a condition (perhaps MS) he threw her over for a Santa Fe hardbody. She died not long after. He’s an egotistical a-hole.
My wife used to know him when she did the triathlon thing in NM in the 80’s. And Earl, his daddy, told me at the Furrow’s lumberyard on Montgomery Ave in the 90’s, the “He doesn’t have any idea what he’s doing.”
She thought at first he was having a seizure but hes basically just a lunatic with a very peculiar sense of humor...
Johnson got 9.3% for President in 2016. That year, Trump + Johnson + McMullin > Clinton + Stein; so, somebody who combined the several elements of the right could win statewide in New Mexico. But, all Johnson running as a Libertarian would do is split the right of center vote and guarantee the Democrat’s election. Were the current Libertarian Party candidate to drop out, it would be best that the Republican candidate say he will work for small “l” libertarian goals such as getting out of unwinnable wars and respecting state laws regarding marijuana.
You must have him mixed up with someone else.
Didn’t this guy run for president under the libertarian party ?
