A fast moving fire in northern California jumped the Sacramento River, sending residents in the city of Redding fleeing ahead of the flames late Thursday in one of several wildfires sweeping through the state.
Cal Fire announced the death early Friday of a private bulldozer operator, who was working on an active section of the fire.
The Carr Fire tore through nearby Shasta and Whiskeytown destroying homes and other buildings before charging into Redding, a city of about 92,000. Several firefighters and civilians have also been injured, fire officials said.
The Sacramento Bee reports:

As the Carr fire burned through Shasta Co., wildfires scorched several other parts of the state. The Ferguson Fire in central California engulfed some 44,000 acres as of Thursday evening and continued to grow near Yosemite National Park. It was reported to be just 27 percent contained.
The Cranston Fire swept over 4,700 acres in just a few hours east of Los Angeles on Wednesday and another fire burned in the Mount San Jacinto area.

Prayers for families that are affected.
Thanks, I posted there earlier. As consequence found this similar article that had more detail.
Aren’t there scattered Redwood (the tree) Parks in the area?
I’ve read several lists of affected areas, but am not personally familiar with the California geography.
So, I simply don’t know the answer to that. It would not surprise me if they were.
Ok, sorry I missed your Post zipping through.
No problem.
Note this bit that just broke too.

All the giant redwoods are over 100 miles west of where the Carr fire is burning. Think coast for the redwoods, and middle of the state for the Carr fire. Hope thia helps a bit.
Only that I’d camped at a few redwood parks there, and was concerned.
OK, thanks I’ve never seen a redwood tree growing. I know the become huge and are slow growth trees. Major loss.
Thanks for perspective.
However, the giant sequoia's are threatened by the fire south of the Redding area fire. The one near Yosemite:
Yosemite fire: Flames threaten parks giant sequoia treesAs flames from the Ferguson Fire burn closer to some of the worlds oldest and largest trees, firefighters are racing to protect ancient sequoias on Yosemite National Parks western edge.
About 25 Yosemite firefighters have surrounded Merced Grove whose immense trees tower more than 200 feet tall and date back 1,000 years with fire hoses. They spent Thursday cutting fire lines by hand around the famous site, hoping to slow the blaze and reduce its intensity if it enters the venerable forest depicted on thousands of postcards and tourist photographs.
For some perspective...
Some may be familiar with the tree's that people could drive through:
Both pretty amazing tree's to see in person.
Thank you for personal touch and perspective. Experience speaks loudly.
Isn’t the picture of the car driving thru the tree actually at Big Trees State park near Arnold Ca? It fell down last year. I used to go there all the time as I lived about 30 minutes away. the only thing that kept me from going more is the fees to get in and gas $$$.
The fire burned through the west side of Redding last night. Now its burning in all directions.
The fire has taken on the dynamics that a raging fire can with plenty of dry fuel, low humidity, intense heat and high winds.
Several towns have been evacuated as it rages.
A Redding firefighter lost his life, in addition to the dozer operator.
Big redwoods dont grow in Redding area. Redding is south of Shasta Lake.
I believe it is. I’ve been to that state park as well. Some really amazing sequoia’s there. It’s incredible how massive their trunks are.
