The Whiskeytown fire has gotten out of control. Huge walls of fire have now rolled through the western portions of the city of Redding, CA that has a population of around 90,000. There are reports of Fire Tornados ripping through neighborhoods. The Sacramento River was breached. Evacuations on going. Mass confusion. Firefighters have stopped working to fire and have go to a life saving mode to rescue those that they can. Entire neighborhoods are gone. No estimate on the number of homes lost right now. Redding Police and Shasta County Sheriff's Department can not pinpoint road closures as the fire is moving too fast. Redding Electric Untily has cut power to ensure line viabilty.
Fire is around 29,000 acres and six percent contained down from ten percent earlier.
So far the fire has not breeched Highway 5 but is approaching it from the west. #CARRFire

That is stupid. inform people they can leave on their own. Elderly could be moved by other organization.
Really?! The fire is ripping through neighborhoods, Evacuation areas expanding continously. How do you stop a Fire-nado? Better to use the resources to save all that can be saved as the property is already gone. Road Closures are an issue too as those are changing constanly and expanding.
Exactly-- this thing is moving quick...Scary stuff.
Thanks
The roads are clear. Meaning not many people are leaving yet.
Yeah, I'm sure Meals On Wheels (or even the Sheriff) can fight through a hot spot to get trapped people out...
Yeah. A friend of a friend and his wife self-evacuated from the Oakland Hills fire.
Firefighters were too busy to do anything so mundane as direct traffic or aid in evacuations.
They each took the road to the bottom of the hill, in the absence of directions, and separated by smoke and traffic, he turned left, she turned right.
He lived.
She didn’t.
We really need a great governor like Gavin Newsome to get a handle on emergency management and the like within the state. Oooo, I wonder how the high speed rail to Bakersfield is coming along?

BTW, police ARE involved with the evacs, according to TV (link above).
A high percentage of these “wildfires” are caused by humans, most often by deliberate arson.
The terrible fire in Greece that killed more than 80 people is now being investigated as arson.
Good God, I loved just south of there in the 1970s in Red Bluff.. I know that area well and have friends possibly in the path of these flames. Prayers up for everyone!!
*lived just south of there
You lived and loved just south of there. Totally acceptable.
One dead in explosive Redding fire. Blaze is moving with no regard to whats in its path https://www.sacbee.com/news/state/california/fires/article215624595.html

#CarrFire: Several radio stations off the air in Redding due to power outages associated with the wildfire, including KHRD-FM, KNCQ-FM and KKXS-FM.
This is a firestorm. There is nothing the FF’ers can do in 60 mph winds.
