I meant that aside from agricultural field hand type work, we do not need any foreign workers. I’m in favor of giving farmers, who show the need, limited access to hire foreigners (which we know as Mexicans) to come pick lettuce, and other assorted tasks, until such time as this type of work is automated at a reasonable cost and human pickers are no longer needed.
Still, we need to consider how we handle any who try to sneak out into the country rather than work or return when finished. If it is impossible, then maybe we all need to be ready for 5 dollar heads of lettuce...
Construction work by illegals is also dangerous.
Years ago at a Bloomberg meeting, someone asked why the city allows it. Bloomberg: We can’t control it.
Surely that is not true! Real reason: Legitimate construction companies are too expensive for cheap landlords to use.
Side effect of nonlicensed construction companies is prejudice in hiring. Only Mexicans allowed.
