Former state Rep. Geoff Duncan appears to have pulled off an upset win against state Sen. David Shafer, narrowly securing the Republican nomination for lieutenant governor.
According to unofficial results from Secretary of States office, Duncan won by less than one percent of the vote.
The Cumming Republican held Shafer off in an extremely close race one that Shafer almost won outright with nearly 50 percent of the vote in the May primary in what was then a three-way race.
Duncan, who served in the state House for five years, ran a campaign as an underdog outsider, often referring to Shafer as the next in line to serve as lieutenant governor.

Is this good, or not so good?
This is for the Georgia Lt Gov position.
Important because he (she) effectively controls the GA Senate administratively (order of bills, committee assignments, etc) that influence what legislation can actually be voted upon by the larger body. And, the Lt Gov position is a stepping point for higher office (Gov itself) - which is what Casey Cagle tried to use to get the governor nomination today.
Cagle, a Jeb Bush type GROPElite insider - lost bigly to another “outsider” who had Trump’s endorsement.
Depends on whether you live in Georgia.
Good.
Bush League Republicans must become extinct before the Republic does.
So, its bad or its good? Did a RINO win or did a RINO lose? Why are we supposed to care?
Anyone? I cant believe no one can tell us this.
We have FReepers who appear to know, but cant be bothered to help those not in Georgia.
Idiots.
Let’s not eat our own, ConservativeMind. It’s late in Georgia. Patience. I’m sure we’ll get an answer.
Handsome fella. Probably got the women.
It would help if the key words had listed Georgia. It has been added.
Well it was a dirty campaign by both sides
Shafer has basically been a politician forever. Duncan has been one less time
If whoever is declared winner will do Kemps bidding it should be ok
They might be in bed
Some here wanted Shafer. He is a long time pol. Duncan is a fresher face. Campaign was just nasty. Did not help clarify anything thing
The (R) who won the Gov. primary is a good one - the (R) who won the Lt. Gov. primary is less important but ok.
Thank you!
Unfortunate.
In Georgia, we should comfortably win the general election, correct?
Yes, Kemp will win in November. His opponent, Stacy Abrams, is $200,000 in debt. Credit cards, student loans, and $50K to the IRS. Very weak candidate.
The media will tell you it’ll be close in November, but it won’t be.
Every statewide office in GA is held by the GOP. After the November election it will be the same.
While I voted for Shafer, and didnt like Duncans attack ads, this is fine, Duncan will be good.
Depends on what people do
We voted for Shafer. IMO he was the better more conservative choice but Duncan ran a really harsh smear campaign.
The gubernatorial election was basically yesterday. Brian Kemp is the next Governor of Georgia. He will be significantly better than Nathan Deal. November is just a formality.
