Robert Wilkie has been confirmed as the next secretary to lead the Department of Veterans Affairs, becoming the first nominee for the job to face any opposing votes in the Senate.
This is the first time in the 30-year history of the post that senators have voted against a president's nominee.
Wilkie, 55, has vowed to shake up complacency at the government's second-largest agency, whose veterans have faced long wait times for medical care.
Wilkie was nominated to replace the former secretary, David Shulkin, who was fired by Trump following infighting at the agency and ethics questions.

What is your verdict on this guy?
Know nothing about him. But I do know the V.A. is a HUGE bureaucracy that’ll swallow you whole.
Me either. I hope he can make some changes to get you better service.
Well, we have our first “Hate Our Veterans” list of Democrat Senators TO REMEMBER. Lots of the Marxist sleezeballs of the Left Coast and Northeast.
They figure the more dead white conservative veterans who could vote, the better, so why improve their treatments so that they can live.
He needs to declare high blood pressure a presumptive Agent Orange illness. ASAP. Vietnam vets need this.
maybe you need to find out ‘why’ the delay on the prosthetic....and also how soon after they get people started using one as the leg not only has to heal well but the muscles also need to be ready.
They’ve never been for veterans...ever.
Well I don’t know about that as caused by Agent Orange. What I do know is there are changes happening now and more to come as this man appears to be shaking things up and out. Gotta get the dead wood gone for sure......it’ll take time but good things are already happening.
Well then there has to be a reason why the delay....follow it up and see..and always ask for the person in charge not those who just take your calls.
Why would she need a second after just 6 or so months? I’m assuming there was a problem with the first?
Shrinkage.
Well that’s why the wait for you I suspect. It’s the save when someones teeth are extracted for dentures. You can have them put right in but in less than a year they won’t fit snug any longer. The longer you wait the better the fit....
It was thoousands cheaper for me to use my health insurance and see private practice doctors.
Thank you for your service, sir.
Obama dumped the findings of the National Academy of Sciences (Re:AO presumptives) in Trump’s lap. di not want to deal with it. Shulkin was supposed to rule a year ago. Didn’t. Waiting for OMB. Then all the controversy. Now a new VA Head. Perhaps something will be done. And not just high BP.
Just curious, but how so, Ma’am? How do your monthly premiums and co-pays at the VA compare with your monthly premiums and co-pays for your insurance?
As a veteran myself, your statements confuse me a little bit. Teach me... :)
Thanks.
Thank you for your service, Sir. As a veteran myself, I appreciate you.
I, too, am a bit confused about why your wife needed a second prosthetic within 6 months? Are you referring to her getting a permanent prosthesis after having a temporary one while her site was healing?
