Actually is was one of the things that was a result of the Great Depression. It was a time when nothing went to waste. Nothing. Probably a rural thing more than a local thing.
I was born in 1932——I remember that era,but I also lived in a city so had no clue about feed sack dresses——or feed sacks. :-)
