From what I've read, the "White Helmets" are an unarmed, neutral civil defense and rescue group. The name refers to the hard hats that they wear. Am I skeptical of this description? Yep, you bet. But I haven't seen any pics of them toting Kalashnikovs, either.

Yes, the fact that the "White Helmets" seem to be active only in rebel-held areas does suggest some sympathies toward the jihadists, at the very least. If they actually *are* Al Qaeda/ISIS/whomever, it's a clever bit of PR.

Mossad usually has solid info on who's who and what's what in the region, though - it's surprising that the Israelis would support this "evacuation".
