You are really asking for it by making a thoughtful and factual post like that!
Look, I own more guns than a Central American militia, and I am as pro-2A as anybody on this board. I also believe in the rule of law. The most important point to be made is that this case HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH STAND YOUR GROUND LAWS. SYG simply eliminated the common law requirement that, when outside the home, deadly force can only be used if you make an attempt to retreat from a confrontation. The shooter in this case was assaulted and knocked to the ground. Clearly the shooter could use deadly force if he reasonably feared for his safety. That’s the issue!! Did he fear for his safety before he pulled the trigger. Again, I am not saying up or down that he did. Just watching the video, my gut says it was not a justified shoot. However, for all I know, the shooter may have bad eyesight or had his contacts knocked out. Or perhaps he thought the deceased had pulled a gun out (his line of sight is different than the camera angle). Or perhaps Mrs. Didndunffin scared him when she ran out of the car and he thought he would be double-teamed. I would want to know the shooter’s side of why he thought he feared for his safety when the deceased was backing up. The police obviously thought the shoot was ok.
