So, if I'm our shooter, I've been knocked to the ground and the thug who did it is standing over me. He isn't rushing me at the moment, but if I start to get up I'll be off balance and a perfect target if he wants to give me a solid kick or punch. The fact is, a good kick or sucker punch can be lethal. So, maybe my best bet is to stay on the ground and see if he goes away. That might be a good call if Mr. Thug's body language, and/or what he's saying to me at the time, suggest that he isn't in a mood to come back at me.
But, that's a lot of thinking to do while I've just been knocked to the ground by the sort of guy who will come out of a convenience store and knock somebody to the ground. Maybe I just stop thinking so much, take out my firearm and neutralize the threat.
Taking a life is serious business. I'd hate to think I killed anyone, even a violent thug, when it could have been avoided. As for the thug: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Here is a clue, When you are carrying be polite and professional, don’t escalate things, shrug it off and tell the judge.
Why muss up your hair?
Looks like a clean kill to me.
If you look at about the :20 mark, just after the guy was shoved to the ground, the perp began walking towards him, and only retreated when the weapon was drawn.
However, he did back off after that.
So yeah, technically justifiable, but I don’t think the incident rises to the level of ending someone’s life.
This is exactly why I got a CHL, I aint 28 and aint gonna play footsie with four thugs on a country road.
Get your head out of your ass lady.
Your man was a punk as thug and now he is dead.
I din do nuffins
So if McGlockton had come out and instead of pushing Drejka had pulled out a gun and shot him, would he also get off under “stand your ground”? After all he could say he was defending his girlfriend from an aggressive individual.
Its 110 here today, the subsaharan dust and ozone are killing me. I don’t use the handicap spot and I have COPD.
I hope they charge this enabled 24 year old BEEOTCH.
From the story:
“Thats when McGlockton, who is black, exited the store and approached Drejka, shoving him violently to the ground with both hands, surveillance video shows. While still on the ground, Drejka, who is white, then pulled out a gun and shot McGlockton, firing a single round that struck him in the chest, deputies said.”
Should have been written THIS way:
Thats when McGlockton, who is big, young, and strong exited the store and strode up to Drejka, immediately
shoving him violently to the blacktop with both hands, surveillance video shows. While still on the pavement, Drejka, who is a much smaller, older, man, then pulled out a gun and shot McGlockton, firing a single round that struck him in the chest, deputies said.
The white guy should have known better than to “disrespect” the Black woman by speaking to her.
Then again, the late Markeis McGlockton seems at times to have had a problem behaving himself. His criminal record in Pinellas County includes numerous arrests and at least one felony conviction in June of 2008 for resisting an officer with violence.
Too bad Markeis wasn't familiar with this.
I predict the shooter walks since old Markeis had just committed a felony assault on the shooter. His family won't be suing the shooter either under Florida law.
I wonder what most cops would have done in a similar circumstance.
Whats interesting here is that while the police ruled justifiable SYG, the case still has to be presented to the states AG for a final decision.
I think the police are agreeing with all of the posters here. Its something that could be ruled either way, so they are declaring SYG applies and will await a verdict from the AG that either endorses their decision or overrule it and seek an indictment. (If I understand things correctly.)
“I dindu nuffin”
Yeah you did. You parked in a handicapped space illegally when several other spots were open.
Your boyfriend then attacked the dude who approached you and pointed out you were illegally parked in a handicapped space without a sticker. The guy he attacked was armed. OOPS! Bad move for your boyfriend. He’ll now enjoy his dirt nap.
End of story. Don’t attack people. It shouldn’t be that hard to figure out. I’ve managed to not attack people my whole life - it can be done!
I didn’t realize the parking lot being full was a valid excuse for parking in a handicapped space?
Seems like a pretty simple situation that got terribly out of hand.
Looks like a good case of self defense to me.
Some folks need to learn not to go around assaulting people every time there is a disagreement. I’m glad he’s dead.
