Perthaps a more exact analogy would be winning a series of games:
The 1960 New York Yankees hold the MLB record for most runs scored in a World Series, with 55 a total which outscored the opposing Pittsburgh Pirates by 28 runs, also a record. Despite this, the Pirates won the Series, four games to three, on Bill Mazeroskis famous walk-off home run to win Game 7.

The New England Patriots only won Super Bowl LI because they scored more points than did the Atlanta Falcons. And like Shillary, the Falcons thought they had the thing wrapped up and refused to change their game plan toward the end.
If they'd just run the play clock down in the late 3rd/4th quarter, NE would not have had time to mount a comeback.
If Shillary had actually campaigned in the swing states she might have won.

“The New England Patriots only won Super Bowl LI because they scored more points than did the Atlanta Falcons.”
And the halftime statistical odds of Atlanta winning the game were 99%.
