Investigators say they frequently impersonated officials from the IRS in a ruse designed to defraud victims located throughout the United States... Four Texans among 24 defendants were sentenced for their part in a massive India-based call center fraud and money laundering scam. The U.S. Department of Justice says the group defrauded thousands of U.S. residents of hundreds of millions of dollars. All were sentenced in Houston this week.

You'd be surprised.
Mostly older people who aren't particularly technologically savvy.
I got two calls last month from people with East Indian accents telling me they were from the IRS and I owed them money.(around $4,000) I played along for a bit. I kept asking them ‘’Oh so you’re going to send me a check?”” “Oh no no’’, they say in a voice like ‘Apu’’ from “The Simpsons’’ ‘’You owe the IRS money’’. That’s when I dropped the hammer and told them in very foul language that I knew who they were, what they were doing and that I was going to call the FBI. That ended that.
“I suppose you have a right to be worried, but your claim...is suspicious”
I also realize that it sounds somewhat paranoid, but there is a HUGE amount of money sitting in those type of accounts, nearly enough to pay off the national debt.
So yes, the proposal is for the government to take the cash, and then turn those accounts into annuities, that would pay you monthly, based on what they seized. That way the government gets a huge pile of cash, with only the obligation to dribble it out (same as Social Security was).
Now this won’t happen tomorrow, but it very well may happen if the government hits a debt-spiral, where interest rates climb to the point that interest on the debt precludes the functioning of the federal government (as happens in Third World countries all the time). The reason for the seizure is that the alternative is worthless currency and a drop to Third World status, and not even the Democrats want that (yet).
“”You’d be surprised.””
What’s the scam? That’s what I’ve never understood. The phone calls have always been about waiting for someone to knock at your door to arrest you and you better respond or else!
I know they’re not native Texans because we get a few of these scam calls a week, and they’re all some kind of Habibeebian. We’ve taken to either pranking them or cursing them outright, and the language they come back with is disgusting. I’m out of patience, and about out of niceness.
I understand...we’re being asked to be more tolerant of those who are native to this country but I draw the line at the complaints from those freeloading...and pulling scams like they belong to the Clinton family!
I want to see the Rachel scammers arrested.
This’ll stop them in their tracks. As they begin their spiel.....just say,
“Hold on a sec. I gotta call on another line. It’s my spouse.....he/she heads the FBI’s telephone fraud unit.”
