South Texas professor approaches City Council dressed as cockroach

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (CALLER TIMES) -- First, Patricia Polastri made slideshows about the new vegetation planted on Ocean Drive near Cole Park and the roaches and rodents it could bring.

Next, she brought a plastic bag of dead cockroaches to a June City Council meeting and handed it to Interim City Manager Keith Selman.

Now, Polastri has dressed like a cockroach herself to get her point across.

"I lived there when we only had three palms in that section of Ocean Drive; now we have 35," she said. "In five blocks, we have 156 palms alone. The city is not going to take care of that."

She has a point. Cities, municipalities, counties etc. love to plant vegetation all over the place, a lot of time with volunteers, but taking care of it is another matter. I’ve been all over and I see overgrown landscaping that looks like garbage dumps because no one even bothers to clean the garbage out. Plant grass, all you have to do is mow it!

Wouldn’t it probably have been OTHER liberals who wanted all the greenery? Sometimes liberals are other liberals’ worst enemies.

Why do palm trees attract cockroaches?

Muslims are the same way, they will buy a nice landscaped home and cut down all the trees. It’s like they hate all life. Interesting that liberals, their western cousins are leaning the same way.

Plants produce oxygen. Still, a toxic gas for democrats as they take up so much of it.

They don’t attract kitchen-type cockroaches- the small German ones that flee from light. They attract wood roaches aka palmetto bugs- which light doesn’t bother at all. These are huge, and fly [there’s always one that gets in the house when you have guests coming through the door and flies in a circle through the living room just to humiliate you before it dies] but thy are nowhere near as prolific or as disgusting as kitchen roaches. Palmetto bugs are very slow, and eat dead leaves and fallen fruit, and given a choice they would rather be outside in the boots of a palm than in the shoes in your closet. When you squish orfrighten them they smell like almond extract which is intended to deter predators but actually smells good. They make great fish bait.

Get guinea hens or chickens. Problem solved... though chickens are a little leery of the big mature ones because the big ones are able to use the hooks on their feet to grasp and hang on to the nostrils of the chickens and put up a quite a fight before going down the hatch. Gives new meaning to the term “roach clip.” Guineas are not intimidated and will often kill them for the hens.

Having one buzz your guests keeps them from lingering too long...

Yeah, Florida had roaches so big they used to hunt them with hounds and would pray that none would refuse to tree and stand their ground. Lost many good dogs that way.

When they get in the house, they die pretty quick. We find them expired in the middle of a room in the morning. Maybe a fridge too far....I don’t know.
Even the bug guy told us they wouldn’t last long.
But the havoc they cause with the wife screaming, climbing up on furniture, throwing things when they’re airborne...that’s the frightening part for me.

OK, I was in the Army in TX for a while and while on night guard duty I saw one climb up a broom stick and flew from there. I thought it was a bird! I never knew the difference between the German ones and these big ones. Thanks for the info.

Someone on youtube should have matches between them and guineas and chickens. They probably already do. I'll have to check.

I checked. No good videos. There's money to be made!
