Suing “the Trump Administration” is a non starter. The new tax code is federal law passed by congress. Federal law can only be changed by another federal law or by the Supreme Court. I’m just sayin’.
There’s something you don’t see every day. Liberals suing to lower taxes.
Looks to me these states don’t have standing to sue. They can’t show any damage to them. In fact, their state taxes won’t change at all (barring other changes), because they disallowed the state tax deduction taken on the fed return. They’re just mad the extra fed taxes paid by their residents isn’t being spent in their states now—it’s being spent in DC.
Cool. Take it to Trump’s newly constituted constitutional/originalist SCOTUS. Maybe they’ll find the entire progressive/socialist shooting match (income tax, fica, medicare, etc) unconstitutional.
They should have eliminated SALT and interest deductions completely and lowered the tax rate appropriately ... and then watch the screaming from the high roller Progressives, Hollywood, pro atheletes, news readers, etc.
Also, since this is a civil suit the Feds should demand attorney fees and costs when the turds lose.
I live in California, and the end of the deduction for state tax will cost me several thousand dollars next spring. It’ll hurt but I can’t pretend the end of the deduction isn’t fair - the problem lies with California, and those of us who live here can’t expect the rest of the nation to subsidize our taxes.
The USSC isn't supposed to change a law at all, and that's the problem many of us have with what they did with Obamacare.
The Constitutionally-defined role of the USSC is to rule on the Constitutionality of a law as passed by Congress and signed by the President of the United States.
If a law is deemed un-Constitutional, the USSC is supposed to strike it down and send it back to Congress to fix and the President to sign. That's clearly not what they did with Obamacare and why people like me are still upset with the activism of the USSC!
“It amounts to taxing the rich....Isnt that what the Dems profess to??”
Seppin’ dey’s de rich! Or they’re worried that the rich RATs will pull up stakes along with their businesses leaving these states with an even bigger hole in their budgets.
What I’m wondering, is why California isn’t in the mix. Our taxes are the highest in the country.
I just hope I’m around when CA gets a dead cat bounce!
I escaped in 1976 to St. Louis tehn Texas abd finally Florida. Nothing left of my home town Harvey in Illinois.
Russia is on a flat tax, 15% for EVERYBODY. No exemptions. Worked out just fine for them. Is there a lesson here?
Now comes the reason for the Electoral College.
What are the chances they will succeed?
Cuomo needs to have his lips surgically sewed shut.
I live on Long Island and am gong to get CREAMED by the new tax law. It was still the right thing to do.
Regards,
I’m in Washington state and I will see a huge tax hike, but I agree with you it was good for the country. Also the market is growing much more than the tax bill will increase. Likely many home owners in blue states with big tax bills also have money in the market and thus would have the same scenario
New York is hell-bent on confiscating every available tax dollar before the federal government can get to any.
Excellent point. They LOVE to tax the rich because they NEVER pay their”fair share.” They shouldn’t be squawking, should they?
Well yes ... but some *rich* (Dems) are more equal than other *rich* (Pubs)
