I live in a Persian neighborhood and while they are very standoffish to hostile in crowds or out and about, once you are one on one or in a small group with them they are very nice and friendly. Most here are Jewish but some are Muslim. Very high expectations for their children’s education, far more than me (not an academics junkie any more).
I had high hopes for Iran back in the Seventies, but...well, that’s how it goes.
