I live in NJ, a dozen miles west of NYC - she’d have plenty of support here. These “leftists of color” are seeing the race war merge with the inter-generational conflict, as non-white young people look for funding from older white taxpayers - increasingly childless themselves. As whites abandon these areas, the infrastructure crumbles and the tax base collapses (often because whites’ employers are leaving as well); the imported “replacement Americans” (I know as a Puerto Rican this “da me esto” - “gibsmedat” is an American citizen) with their anchor babies then support anyone who calls for bringing someone else’s money back to the area. As the non-white urban populations demand more (all the government jobs, for example), they are unwilling to pay for anything themselves - white taxpayers elsewhere are expected to support this new minority caste of government workers and politicians.
This ideology is key to the Democratic Party platform; when ideas don’t work, appeal to envy coupled with racial hatred. As other FReepers have pointed out, she’s at least guaranteed that position for life (like Maxine Waters in her “safe” district); as the NYC metro area continues to deteriorate she could probably move up in NY state politics. Heck, here in neighboring NJ both of our senators are from the same mold - race-based politics combined with income re-distribution.
