Our anti-semitism was more of the snide kind not the dangerous kind. Jews could have fled to Poland to escape the oppression in Russia, Lithuania and the Ukraine and that might explain the large number.

You do know originally Hitler sought Poland out as a potential ally, knowing their hatred of the Russians, Hitler made it clear to Piłsudski, that there would something in it for Poland, in the way of gaining Russian territory if Poland would ally with Germany, Piłsudski, wisely refused, and Poland chose to ally with Britain and France. This upset Hitler so much, that Poland became his sworn enemy after that, and he vowed to destroy the entire Polish race.
