Why doesn’t the chain just offer a small room to folks who would prefer not to share, for whatever reason.

A reasonable solution, but it'd have to be a big room. And the point of social activism is not to allow people to act on their own desires, it's to force them to act on somebody else's.

Well, here’s a related problem. Stopped in a Burger King in a major metro area not too long ago. There was a longer than usual line for the ladies. It had been converted from a two-holer to a one-holer. Presumably to get around this kinda cr@p. Checked with hubby who used the gents. Still had both a urinal and a toilet in a stall. How the heck this retrofit didn’t violate code is beyond me. Talk about a #waronwomen.
