That's a great one. I think I'll steal it and add it to my definition, as follows:

INTELLECTUAL: An individual educated beyond his intelligence who is incapable of or unwilling to create or provide goods or services of value to others, who pontificates and expects to be paid for doing so, usually from public funds.

Do you think Mr. Hyde would object to my "borrowing" his insight?
