Mr Juncker was accompanied by the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, who warned that worsening trade tensions could lead to conflict. Instead of working with us to address a common problem, some of our trading partners have elected to respond with retaliatory tariffs created to punish American workers, farmers and companies.
"It is the common duty of Europe and China, but also America and Russian Federation, not to destroy (the global trade order) but to improve it, not to start trade wars which turned into hot conflicts so often in our history", EU Council President Donald Tusk said in Beijing.
The Trump administration has criticized the WTO as unable to deal with the problems posed by China, suggesting a challenge there might have little impact in Washington.
"There is still time to prevent conflict and chaos".
"Today we are facing a dilemma, whether to play a tough game, such as tariff wars and conflict in places like Ukraine and Syria, or to look for common solutions based on fair rules". That was in response to complaints Beijing is hurting American companies by stealing or pressuring enterprises to hand over technology.

This justifies Trumps tariffs and more tariffs in the future.
But we could see how the newly minted tariffs work out.
