President Trump offended the entire political spectrum with a tweet this morning blaming the U.S. for poor relations with Russia. Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity, the president said, and he is entirely correct. By this I do not mean to say that Russia is a beneficent actor in world affairs or that President Putin is an admirable world leader. Nonetheless, the president displayed both perspicacity and political courage when he pointed the finger at the United States for mismanaging the relationship with Russia.
Full disclosure: I was a card-carrying member of the neoconservative cabal that planned to bring Western-style democracy and free markets to Russia after the fall of Communism. As chief economist for the supply-side consulting firm Polyconomics, I got an appointment as an adviser to Boris Yeltsins finance ministry and made several trips to Moscow. Of course, the finance ministry really was a family office for Yeltsins oligarch friends, who were too busy stealing Russias economy to listen to advice. The experience cured me of the neoconservative delusion that democracy and free markets are the natural order of things.
Unfortunately, the delusion that the United States would remake Russia in its own image persisted through the Bush and Obama administrations. I have no reason to doubt the allegations that a dozen Russian intelligence officers meddled in the U.S. elections of 2016, but this was equivalent of a fraternity prank compared to Americas longstanding efforts to intervene in Russian politics.
The United States supported the 2014 Maidan uprising in Ukraine and the overthrow of the Yanukovych government in the hope of repeating the exercise in Moscow sometime later.

Thank you, JR.
Bye-bye, scumbag.
Thanks - I asked this same thing in another thread. I think you have a good theory. But Bernie who?
(Living in the Seattle area, I bet he had his highest bumper-sticker sales out here!)
IMHO, the power structures aren’t national. We should get back to national power structures, but so very much has been set in motion against nations, that it will take another generation to return to normalcy.
Meanwhile, a new generation scarred by the Obamas and Clintons will raise their ugly heads in 12 years.
This President bleeds true blue American blood and apologizes to no one for loving his country and doing the best job he can do. He is going to do it his way and has very good instincts.
I could not be more proud of him than I was today.
He went to this meeting and showed strength but also reality instead of arrogance. As in, we are a nation of great strength but we also have weaknesses (just like you Russia).
I love this President. He is treated so badly but keeps on working despite it all.
God bless you Mr. President.
*Sigh*, IATZ again...
TDS remains un-diagnosed in many.
Things are getting lively. Might have to dust off a few shrubberies to plant on the graves of the departed.
Given that he posted all of 20 times in the past year and then seems to have not posted since 2004, this Tard won’t be missed.
Speaking of which.
Where is humblegunner?
Mr. Goldman and millions of other Americans. I hadn’t watched television for over a decade before the President’s election campaign and was fooled by much of his praise for the left, leftist policies and generalizing promises. Looked like he was going to be a spendthrift. Ironic, how my lack of television viewing made me miss the clues.
So I watched more videos of his speeches and other news, searching for hints.
Then I saw some of the people likely to go into his cabinet along with many other supporters from greatness and began to see the light on the matter. What began to materialize, was a blessing whose path embodies the best attributes of presidents from various parts of the political spectrum: a fearless man who was ready to fight the fight of centuries for us if necessary.
He often spoke as though he would be the worst choice, but so far, he’s the best. And yes, lo and behold, he knew and brought us lots of “good people...amazing!”
Let President Trump continue to utter perplexities, if that is part of the plan. Because his real deeds and the deeds of most of his cabinet members are great. I don’t know for sure, but it looks like the deeds of most of the Trump Administration thus far are a gift to our nation from G-d. Even the antithetical actions of a few obstructing cabinet members are putting a light on problems that need to be solved or discarded.
‘Till 2025? ‘Merica! Oh, yeah! Vote for the best supporters of President Trump for Congress in the midterms this year! This is our big chance! Don’t let it go by.
LOL!
